Looking for houses is both fun yet tiring and overwhelming. Jason and I are both very aware that the house we're buying will not just be an ordinary house we both like. No, this house will also be the place where the birth of Eastview Church will take place. Since Eastview's emphasis will be on reaching out to the unchurched, the beginning will look a lot like a New Testament time church where people met in someone's home. As we're looking for houses, we have to keep so much in mind. Is the living room big enough to hold a home Bible study group? Is the gameroom big enough for childcare? Will the kitchen be one where countless of meals will be prepared and provided? After all, I think one of the best ways to reach the unchurched might really be having them over for food! People let their guards down when there's food involved, and people seem to make friends easier too when food's on the program. The house will be a place where the lost find Jesus, people are nourished spiritually and physically, and feel welcomed, loved and refreshed.
Our realtor has taken us to look at houses in 2 different occasions already. Plano is a little more than an hour away, so everytime we go up to look at houses, it's an entire day ordeal. We've looked at many houses already, but the funny thing is that Jason and I really love the first house we looked at. The house is practically new (built in 2002), and the owners not only took good care of it, but had pretty good taste in colors and window drapes. Most importantly, the house meets the needs of the future home Bible study group. If we were to buy the house, all we would need to do is clean the carpet, do some touch up painting and voila! Ready to move in! I think we might just make an offer soon.
Lord, we know You already have a house in mind for our home and ministry. If this house is it, then may You work out all the details in the negotiation process. May the house You provide us with be a place where You will be honored and glorified. We trust in Your provision and Your faithfulness.
